NIMR Human Biology Essay competition 2012

2012 was the tenth year of the NIMR Human Biology Essay Competition.

The judging

Essays were read anonymously without indication of origin and were judged in three rounds; the first two judged by six members of NIMR staff. Each judge looked at 8 essays and selected the two best essays for the next round. The final round was judged by two of our staff, two members of the Francis Crick Institute staff and two teachers from local schools. The criteria for choosing winners were based on a combination of quality of information and writing style.

High standards of essays

The finalists wrote to a high standard and all the essays were a great credit to their authors. We were impressed with their often bold and thoughtful attempts to make sense of difficult subjects. Most had correctly prepared bibliographies; some indicating prodigious efforts of research.
