Science for Health
NIMR has an active schools programme which aims to foster and stimulate interest in science and research among young people.
Each year we hold a Schools Day where students from local schools visit the Institute for an afternoon. We also have an annual Essay competition for sixth formers in local schools, with a first prize of £100 and the opportunity to visit scientists in their laboratories.
For those who are interested in a career in science or medicine, our Research Summer School funded by the Nuffield Science Bursary Scheme, provides an exciting opportunity for students to conduct their own research projects under the supervision of Institute staff.
Many of our scientists enjoying talking about their research and often visit primary and secondary schools to give presentations, participate in science days and run workshops. If you would like a scientist to visit your school please contact .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for further information.
Clare Davy, a Postdoctoral scientist at NIMR, is a Primary STEM Ambassador who has worked with STEMNET and Teachers TV to produce a short production for KS2 pupils about DNA. This is just one example of the type of activities our scientists are involved in.
The Outreach section of our website also contains information that may be of interest, such as the use of animals in research.
