Pavel Tolar obtained an MD degree at Charles University, Prague and a PhD in immunology at the Institute of Molecular Genetics, Prague, Czech Republic, where he studied molecular aspect of activation of mast cells.
In 2003, he joined the the National Institutes of Health, Rockville, Maryland, USA, as a postdoctoral fellow to work with Susan Pierce on the development and use of imaging technology for the study of B cell activation and signaling.
He moved to NIMR in 2009 as a tenure-track programme leader in the Division of Immune Cell Biology to pursue his interest in the structural, molecular and cellular mechanisms of immune receptor activation.
