Gitta Stockinger group project:

Role of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor and its ligands in Th17 mediated immune responses

Funded by an ERC Advanced Investigator grant we will screen AhR ligands ranging from exogenous toxins to endogenous physiological ligands for their effect on Th17 mediated immune responses and IL-22 production, define transcriptional changes in Th17 cells upon AhR ligation and test AhR involvement in inflammatory immune responses in vivo.

In collaboration with dermatologists at Kiel University we are assessing the role of AhR in human psoriasis as the involvement of IL-22 in psoriasis makes it highly likely that AhR plays a role in the pathogenesis of this disease.
