Andres Ramos Biography

Andres Ramos obtained a degree in Molecular Biology/Biochemistry from the University of Florence, Italy. He then joined Gabriele Varani's group at the Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB) in Cambridge for his PhD studies. During his stay at LMB he used NMR and other biophysical tools to characterize protein-RNA interactions in the Drosophila Staufen and HIV tat systems.

After obtaining his PhD he left LMB for the MRC National Institute for Medical Research, in London, where he joined the group of Annalisa Pastore. During his Postdoc, he analysed the interactions of the NDF, RGG and KH domains of the FMRP protein with RNA. He also implemented NMR methods targeted to the study of large protein-RNA complexes.

In 2004 he established his own research group. His present work takes advantage of a range of structural and biophysical tools to study the role of protein-RNA interactions in mRNA decay, 3'mRNA editing and viral regulation. This work benefits from several intramural, national and international collaborations.
