Safety and security
Safety and security provide a safe working environment at the Institute. All staff are offered safety training and advice.
The Safety Section monitors compliance with the relevant Health and Safety legislation and the agreed Codes of Practice at NIMR. Areas covered include fire, radiological and biological safety.
Radiation monitoring and dosimetry is undertaken as well as chemical and biological waste disposal. There are also specialised laboratories available e.g. for radioactive work, plus a cell irradiator.
The following training and services are provided by the Safety Section:
- advice and training in all aspects of Health and Safety
- ensuring staff are informed and aware of health and safety issues
- specialist training and advice in general, biological and radiation safety
- risk assessments in many areas of safety and security
- an audit service
- mini monitor callibration service
- fume cupboard flow-rate testing
- biological containment and tissue culture laboratory fumigation
