Procedural Services
The Procedural Service Section (PSS) helps to produce, maintain and cryopreserve the Institute's genetically altered animals (GA). We offer a range of services including:
- Production of GA rodents
- Cryopreservation of rodent and aquatic germplasm
- Importation of rodent GA lines
- Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART)
- Genotyping, training and microscope servicing
PSS is open to new ideas, and as far as resources are available will try to support the scientific divisions with any project needing more hands, and with novel and not yet well established techniques. We can also help with training in a range of transgenic techniques and associated procedures.
Current projects
- Cryopreservation of Zebrafish spermatazoa
- Cryopreservation of Xenopus spermatazoa
- Vitrification of oocytes for emergency IVFs
- Fecal genotyping to negate the need for repeat biopsy
- Copulatory plug genotyping to identify germline transmitting chimeras
- A genetic stability program for the Institute's inbred lines to reduce genetic drift and detect gross genetic contamination
