Science for Health
The Library at the Institute was established in 1920 on the Hampstead premises. When the Institute moved to its present location in Mill Hill in 1950 the library gained new purpose-built accommodation in the main building, with the design of the library winning much praise.
Previous librarians have included Leslie Morton (from 1959 to 1972) and Robert Moore (from 1972 to 1999). The current librarian is Frank Norman.
The Library was one of the first in the UK to use Medlars (the MEDical Literature Analysis And Retrieval Service), in 1966. This service, provided by the US National Library of Medicine, evolved into Medline in 1972 and in various forms since then has continued in use at NIMR.
The OMNI project (a gateway to medical information on the Internet) was devised here and was based in the library for the first two years of its life (1995-1997).
From 1997 until 1998 the library was also a test site for the SuperJournal project (exploring factors affecting the use of electronic journals).
