Media Preparation

NIMR benefits from having an in-house media preparation facility. In 2009 the team processed 3529 orders totalling 34,390 litres of buffers, media and associated products. This included 11,000 litres of sterile distilled water, 10,000 litres of PBS, 6,000 litres of yeast and bacterial media, a wide assortment of microbiological poured plates and over quarter of a million tubes of drosophila food.

1500 types of product

We routinely produce around 300 different products annually, however, the facility has formulae for over 1500 types of product, including the full range of tissue culture and microbiological media, buffers, antibiotics and salt and amino acid solutions.

Consultation and customisation

Our media department is on-site for immediate consultation with researchers, and has the expertise to produce small batches of custom-made media (prohibitively expensive if made commercially) and to provide speed of delivery to the end users.

Additional services

Additional services offered by the Media Preparation facility include the supply of endotoxin free solutions, endotoxin testing and equipment sterilisation (via autoclave or oven).
