Bioresources

The Bioresources section brings together three NIMR research support functions (Large Scale Laboratory, Media Preparation and the Mellanby Freezer Archive), and contributes towards the scientific efforts of researchers in almost every division.

The Large Scale Laboratory is responsible for growing and processing bulk cultures of mammalian, insect, yeast and bacterial cells, in volumes beyond the scope of individual research groups.

The Media Preparation facility manufactures about 35,000 litres of reagents each year, supplying everything from sterile distilled water to drosophila diet and microbiological poured plates.

The Mellanby Freezer Archive is a purpose-designed facility for the long-term, secure storage of MRC research material.
