Science for Health
The Institute offers a very supportive environment in which students are trained to conduct high quality research. Our programme extends over four years and comprises laboratory-based research on a defined project which is agreed between the student and supervisor, usually in the first three months of study. Our students are registered at University College London or the Open University and we also have partnerships with other universities. In addition to the resources and training we offer at NIMR, students are also able to participate in the programmes run by their associated university.
Students participate in a range of lectures and seminars covering their own field of study and other research areas. During the summer term we run a study programme comprising weekly lectures covering all research areas within NIMR. We also offer our students an extensive range of skills training and a career development programme.
The majority of our students are registered at UCL, and we also have partnerships with other universities. In addition to the resources and training we offer at NIMR, students are also able to participate in the programmes run by their associated university.
The progression of each student is formally monitored throughout the duration of the programme by the supervisor, a thesis committee (comprising senior academics) and the Director of Studies. In the first instance our students register for an MPhil, and following successful completion of a written report, presentation and evidence of sufficient skills training, students upgrade to PhD after 12-18 months.
