NIMR has an active outreach programme, and we include some of it here, to give you a flavour of the range of activities we engage in. Our outreach programme aims to promote public awareness and understanding of science and to make informal contributions to science education: about what research is, what scientists do and how scientific research fits into society.

NIMR's active schools programme aims to foster and stimulate interest in science and research among young people. Activities include Schools Days, Essay competitions and participation in science fairs. We also participate in the Nuffield Research Placements Scheme

Mill Hill Essays

The Mill Hill Essays have been published annually since 1995 to promote the public understanding of science, and are designed to be accessible to anyone with an interest in science and the natural world. They are available in print and online.

Animals in research

Why animals are used in research, legislation, ethical processes and the commitment to best practice and animal welfare at NIMR.

University of the Third Age

U3As provides creative learning opportunities for people no longer in full-time employment. NIMR hosts an annual meeting for the North London region.

Art and science

NIMR's Art Programme provides opportunities for artists to make and think about art in a non-art context, and actively encourages artists to engage with scientists and other staff at the Institute.

Teachers' Professional Development Day

Talks on recent research at NIMR for teachers from local schools on subjects that are part of the A level curriculum or which are of general interest.
