NIMR scientists in the news

07 October 2011

Two NIMR scientists have commented on recent scientific stories in the news.

Robin Lovell-Badge, head of the Division of Stem Cell Biology and Developmental Genetics, is quoted in Reuters commenting on the news that scientists in New York have used a cloning technique to get tailor-made embryonic stem cells to grow in unfertilised human egg cells.

This paper will be seen as significant both by those who are trying to use SCNT to produce human patient-specific embryonic stem cell lines and by those who oppose human cloning experiments.

Jonathan Stoye, head of the Division of Virology, is quoted in the Chicago Tribune and in Nature News commenting on the continuing arguments about the validity of a two-year old paper on XMRV published in Science.

I have a copy of that paper on my desk. It has a line through Fig 1. It has a line through Fig 2c. Where is the next line going to be? Is there going to be anything left? It is a tragedy in every respect.
