Science for Health

An article published in Lab Times highlights a number of analyses of research publications in parasitology. Articles published from 1996-2007 in the 39 specialist journals categorised as "parasitology" by the SCImagoJR, database were analysed to produce rankings of the most productive countries in the field, both in Europe and worldwide. The Web of Science was used to rank the most-cited authors and papers. Tony Holder (pictured) was listed as number 19 in the list of most-cited authors.
The citation rankings are dominated by field-based clinical scientists, reflecting the applied nature of much of Parasitology research. The recent whole-genome studies have had a big impact in Parasitology research and this is reflected in the second tier of rankings. Basic science clearly still has some way to go!
