Science for Health
15 August 2008
As before, there were three rounds of judging: the first two by six members of staff at NIMR, with the two best essays going into the final round. This final round was judged by a panel comprised of two members of NIMR staff, two teachers from local schools and two former members of NIMR. The essays were all read anonymously, without indication of the name of the school or pupil.
The judges usually have to make tricky choices between entries with high quality information or an attractive writing style. This is all a matter of balance, but we hope entrants will accept that there is inevitably something a little arbitrary in our selection.
The standard of essays received continues to impress the judges, and everyone who participated should be proud of their contribution. We hope that all students who participated thought the effort was worthwhile, learnt from the experience and most of all, enjoyed it! We also hope that you will mention your efforts on your personal statement for UCAS.
The three prizewinners will spend a day at NIMR, seeing the most visually interesting aspects of a research institute. The writer of the winning essay will also receive £100, and the two runners-up will receive £50 each.
