The Honess lecture started in 1995 as a lecture on infectious disease in memory of Bob Honess. Bob joined NIMR's Division of Virology in 1976, becoming head of Division in 1987 until his untimely death in 1990. He worked on herpesviruses, and published the primary structure of the Herpes saimiri genome.
