Science for Health
01 March 2010
With effect from 1st March 2010, Gitta Stockinger is taking over as the head of NIMR's Division for Molecular Immunology. The previous head, Dimitris Kioussis, remains at NIMR as a group leader but plans to retire in late spring.
Gitta Stockinger (pictured) has been a group leader in Molecular Immunology since 1991. The main interest of her lab is the functional analysis of peripheral T cell responses. Her current focus is on the development and function of CD4 effector T cells, such as Th17 cells and modulation of effector functions by exogenous and endogenous environmental factors. Gitta is an EMBO member and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences.
Dimitris Kioussis has spent nearly 30 years at NIMR as postdoc, group leader and head of division. He became the head of the Division of Molecular Immunology when it was formed in 1992. He has made seminal discoveries on how chromatin regulates gene expression. His work has had global impact on knowledge of chromatin structure in lymphocyte development. Dimitris is an EMBO member, Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Fellow of the Royal Society.
