CPD (Continuing Professional Development) for animal technicians

26 February 2008

NIMR's Biological Services has been granted a NC3Rs/LASA small award to be used in financing the project ‘Continuing Professional Development for animal technicians’.

Continuing Professional Development is important for animal technicians so that they can maintain their competencies and skills and fulfil their obligation to ensure that best practice in animal welfare is achieved. An up-to-date knowledge of Animal Technology is also important so that the science it supports benefits from modern developments and approaches.

The award will be used to fund NIMR animal technicians' participation in exchange trips, site visits and day symposiums. The technicians will have opportunities to share and express knowledge and new ideas and benefit from exchanges of information relevant to all areas of animal technology.

Information gathered from these activities will be fed back to the rest of Biological Services staff by way of peer group meetings, poster displays and workshops. The aims and output of the project will also be submitted to the NC3R’s for use in future promotional material.

The Small Awards Scheme is operated by the NC3Rs (National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research) in partnership with the Laboratory Animal Science Association. Funds are available to support research and training in the 3Rs and laboratory animal welfare.
