A: JAtlas is a Java WebStart program that mounts from a remote server every time you start the application. You will notice that the viewer.jnlp (Java Network Launch Protocol) file is only 4KB. This file launches WebStart, which connects to the remote server, and the software is uploaded each time you connect.
A: Yes. Open the "viewer.jnlp" file as normal. A version of the software is cached on your hard drive, and will run normally. If you are running JAtlas while connected to the internet, and you go offline, the program will continue to run.
A: Yes. We offer free CDs containing the JAtlas program and the limb datasets. Email us your details and we will post it to you.
A: The naming of structures was based on several references . If you have a query regarding the naming of a structure, or notice an error, please contact us .
A: Yes. If users suggest amendments to the naming of structures, we will consider the suggestion, update the dataset and provide a new version on the webpage.
A: At present, we only provide datasets for muscles/tendons and bones of the forelimb and hindlimb of E14.5 embryos. However, in the future, we hope to include data on limb vasculature and nervous structure, and include younger stage embryos.
A: Although the limb atlas is based on a single forelimb and hindlimb, in the course of producing the dataset we analysed many other limbs at the same stage of different individuals and different strains. No differences were detected in the general organisation and patterning of structures to suggest that variation is an issue.
